MAIN REPRESENTATION WITHIN THE CRIME GENRE

In crime movies, the participation of male characters, whom are typically presented as the main character within the film, is a common characteristic of this genre due to the fact that this is a male genre with a male protagonist who turns out to be the person who solves the crime in the end. On the other hand we have the females characters who are the secondary characters, they are represented as either the victim, the one who seduces the protagonist into trouble or even the character who lacks in realism and is clueless of the situation.

Usually in these films, the males are presented as detectives, they are single, independent, tough and worldly wise, has underworld connections but is not himself criminal; in some cases he may bend the law but will work to own set of moral standards and values. Women, as mentioned before, they have the role of someone not as important as the male, they are usually the ones that seduce the main character to create a distraction, or most of the time they are simply the victim, giving them a role that does not stand out that much.
This huge difference between the genders makes it obvious to understand that the target audience are males due to the fact that are presented as the strong gender and are the main character in these movies, but I personally believe that there should be a balance, there are some films where the roles distributed between both genders, just like males, females are be able to be the  “hero” who solves the crime, but males are mainly presented as the “hero”.
Although, some general representations are well portrayed like giving someone the characteristics of being independent and worldly wise, I would definitely change the fact of giving the main role right away to males characters, those characteristics can also be present in females characters, that way it’s not all about an independent male being seduced by a female or trying to save a female victim, but can also be a female having to save some male victim.
